Welcome to the family, Annie!

This past September, we welcomed Annie to our herd.  She was donated to us because she was deemed too difficult to ride.  I love a challenge… and I just love her!

I am very excited to share that I finally got on Annie this afternoon and she was just perfect!  Very gentle and sweet.  I was so relieved and pleased! I didn’t know if I would be tossed to the moon – but all my groundwork paid off!  Yay Annie!

Welcome to the family, Cochise!

Cochise was given to me a couple of weeks ago.  He just did not fit where he was at and was considered stubborn.  He fits right in with our little herd and already is a favorite with his lesson people!  He is a 21-yr-old Appaloosa and used to be a parade horse.  He looks like a larger version of Dhan Zhou (as you can see), and they are only one year apart in age.  We are delighted to have Cochise with us!

Giving Hope to an Olympic Reject

The 2012 Summer Olympics are upon and I wanted to share this story in honor of this upcoming event.

There was a lady that I had worked with some in the past, whose husband made quite a bit of money.  This is relative, because this enabled her to take one of her horses to Florida every year in the winter to work with the Olympic trainers.  Florida is where the Olympic trainers & horses winter.

This particular year she took her 4-year old that she had raised from a baby.  I had previously not seen this horse.  When she returned she was quite distraught.  The Olympic coaches had told her that this horse was extremely dangerous and should be destroyed.  Remember now – they didn’t just say that he wasn’t talented – but that he was TOO DANGEROUS to continue living.  They recommended he be put down.

This was her baby.  As a last resort – she contacted me.  I came out and worked with her on her horse.  She rode ~ I instructed.  This is important to point out ~ because I specialize in NOT being “Janice the Magical Trainer”, but rather teach the owners how to handle their own horse.

Within two to three months (I worked with her only once a week) her horse was tractable enough that she could haul him to her Dressage Coach (quite a good one) for Dressage Lessons, and started showing this horse at the shows.  A far cry from the death sentence the Olympic coaches gave him.
